Iran Demands Full and Unconditional Release of Frozen Assets Worth US$24 Billion

Kuala Lumpur – Iran has firmly demanded the complete and unconditional release of all its assets frozen by the United States as part of efforts to reach a peace agreement.

Ali Bagheri Kani, Deputy Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, stated that the release of these assets is a legitimate right of the Iranian people under international law.

“We demand the release of all Iranian assets frozen by the United States. This is the right of the Iranian people. These assets must be returned in full and without any conditions,” he was quoted as saying by Tasnim news agency, as reported by Xinhua.

Iran is demanding the unfreezing of assets worth approximately US$24 billion (around RM100 billion). The demand was made while an Iranian delegation is in Doha, Qatar, to discuss a possible peace agreement with the US.

Background of the Conflict

Iran, the US, and Israel reached a ceasefire on April 8 following a 40-day conflict. However, subsequent peace talks held in Islamabad, Pakistan on April 11 and 12 failed to reach an agreement.

Since then, both sides have continued to exchange proposals through Pakistani mediation. For Iran, the release of frozen assets and ending the conflict are the top priorities in the negotiations, taking precedence over the nuclear program issue.

A high-level Iranian delegation is currently in Qatar to discuss the peace agreement and the potential release of frozen funds as part of a final deal.

This latest demand reflects Tehran’s firm stance in ensuring the full restoration of the country’s economic sovereignty after years of international sanctions.

This development is expected to be a major focus in Middle East regional diplomacy in the coming weeks.
