Madani Government Commits to Fair and Sustainable Development for Sabah and Sarawak

Kuala Lumpur, May 30, 2026 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed the Madani Government’s strong determination to accelerate and strengthen development in Sabah and Sarawak, ensuring both states receive fair and continuous benefits from national progress.

In his latest statement, Anwar emphasised that the government is fully committed to delivering better opportunities in education, quality healthcare, and comprehensive basic infrastructure to the people of Sabah and Sarawak.

“Our goal is clear – to ensure that the rakyat in Sabah and Sarawak enjoy a more dignified and prosperous life,” Anwar said, highlighting the Madani administration’s focus on equitable development across the country.

The Prime Minister’s remarks come amid the ongoing celebration of major cultural festivals in the two Borneo states – the Kaamatan Harvest Festival in Sabah and the Gawai Dayak Festival in Sarawak. Observers see the timing as symbolic, underscoring the government’s pledge to support the unique needs and aspirations of East Malaysian communities while strengthening national unity.

Under the Madani framework, the government has repeatedly positioned Sabah and Sarawak as key priorities in its national development agenda. The latest commitment reinforces ongoing efforts to bridge the development gap between Peninsular Malaysia and the two resource-rich states through targeted investments in human capital and physical infrastructure.

Anwar stressed that development must be inclusive, sustainable, and benefit all segments of society, particularly in rural and interior areas that have historically faced challenges in accessing modern amenities and services.

This renewed pledge is expected to guide upcoming budget allocations and policy initiatives aimed at uplifting living standards in Sabah and Sarawak, aligning with the broader vision of a progressive and equitable Malaysia.

The full details of the government’s development roadmap for both states will continue to be rolled out in the coming months as part of the Madani Government’s long-term economic and social transformation plans.
