PKR Youth Chief Says Election Director Reshuffle Is Strategic, Not A Question Of Leadership Ability

KUALA LUMPUR,MAY,2026 – PKR Youth chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim has defended the party’s recent reshuffle involving its election director post, saying the move is part of a strategic restructuring exercise to strengthen PKR’s machinery ahead of the next election.

Speaking to reporters at the Padang Rengas Madani Youth Carnival, Muhammad Kamil said changes in party portfolios should be seen as a normal process within any political organisation. According to him, political parties and governments often adjust responsibilities based on current needs and future challenges.

He stressed that the restructuring should not be interpreted as a sign of weakness or lack of capability among PKR leaders. This includes Nurul Izzah Anwar, who is now serving as PKR deputy president after previously holding responsibilities related to election operations.

Muhammad Kamil said there was no issue of Nurul Izzah being unqualified or incapable, noting that she had previously served as election director during an important period for the party, including the 14th General Election when PKR and its allies successfully formed the government.

According to him, the latest reshuffle is aimed at ensuring that election-related operations can be carried out more effectively and efficiently. He described the change as a strategic decision rather than a move based on personalities or internal weakness.

The statement comes after PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari was appointed as the party’s election director alongside Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. Muhammad Kamil said both leaders have strong experience in managing election operations and party organisation.

He noted that Amirudin had previously served as election operations director, giving him the knowledge and practical experience needed to manage the responsibility. Muhammad Kamil expressed confidence that Amirudin would be able to carry out the role effectively.

The reshuffle is seen as part of PKR’s preparation to strengthen its political machinery ahead of future elections. According to Muhammad Kamil, a responsible leader must review the country’s economic position and align public spending with current needs. He acknowledged that such measures may not always be popular, but said they are important for Malaysia’s long-term economic sustainability.

He also stressed that any restructuring of government expenditure would not affect critical sectors such as healthcare and education. Programmes related to these sectors are expected to continue, while the government reviews spending methods to identify areas where savings can be made.
