Kuala Lumpur — Seven people were injured, including four US service members and three private contractors, after Iran launched a ballistic missile attack on a US airbase in Kuwait, according to reports.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the strike, describing it as a direct response to a recent US airstrike near Bandar Abbas Airport in southern Iran. The missile was launched at approximately 4:50 a.m. local time (0120 GMT).
Kuwaiti air defense forces successfully intercepted the incoming ballistic missile, but falling debris from the interception struck the base, causing minor injuries. All seven injured individuals — four active-duty US military personnel and three civilian contractors — sustained only light wounds and were able to return to duty within 24 hours, officials confirmed.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the missile was neutralized before impact, preventing major damage to the facility.
The incident marks the latest escalation in the fragile regional tensions that began on February 28 when the United States and Israel conducted strikes against Iran. Tehran responded with a series of drone and missile attacks across the region, leading to the temporary closure of the Strait of Hormuz. A ceasefire was brokered through Pakistani mediation on April 8, but subsequent talks in Islamabad failed to yield a lasting agreement.
US President Donald Trump has extended the ceasefire while maintaining sanctions on vessels traveling to or from Iranian ports through the Strait of Hormuz. He has repeatedly indicated that a comprehensive peace deal may be close.
