Woman On Way To Work Among Two Killed In Baling Three-Vehicle Crash, One Seriously Injured

KUALA LUMPUR, June, 2026 – Two people were killed while another man was seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash at Batu Tujuh along Jalan Tawar-Kulim near Baling, Kedah, on Tuesday morning.

The crash involved a Perodua Myvi, a Proton Saga and a bus. The incident has drawn public attention after one of the victims was identified as a young woman who was travelling to work when the accident happened.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department, one of the victims was Alina Mohd Shapri, 23, who was travelling in a Perodua Myvi from Baling to Kulim for work at the time of the crash.

Another fatality involved a man travelling in a Proton Saga. His identity was still being confirmed at the time of the report.

Baling Fire and Rescue Station chief Assistant Superintendent Zulkhairi Mat Tanjil said both victims were trapped in their vehicles after the collision. Firefighters removed the male victim from the wreckage, while the female victim was assisted and removed by members of the public.

Both victims were later confirmed dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel. Another man in the Proton Saga sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital by medical responders.

The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 6.22am before deploying rescue teams to the location, which was about 24 kilometres away. Upon arrival, rescuers found the crash scene involving fatalities and a seriously injured victim.

Baling district police chief Superintendent Brandon Richard Joe later confirmed that the accident also involved a bus, making it a three-vehicle crash.

Initial police investigations found that the Perodua Myvi driven by the female victim and a bus driven by a 47-year-old local man were travelling in the same direction from Baling to Kulim.

At the same time, the Proton Saga, driven by a 26-year-old man with a 27-year-old male passenger, was travelling in the opposite direction from Kulim towards Gerik.

Police said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which relates to causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

The tragedy has once again highlighted the risks faced by daily commuters, especially those who travel early in the morning on inter-district roads. What began as a routine journey to work ended in a fatal accident that claimed two lives and left another person seriously injured.

Jalan Tawar-Kulim is an important road used by motorists travelling between areas such as Baling, Kulim and routes heading towards Gerik. The road is used by private vehicles, buses and other road users, making careful driving essential, especially during morning travel hours.
