Iran Fires Ballistic Missiles at US Bases in Kuwait and Bahrain in Retaliation for American Strikes

Kuala Lumpur , June 7, 2026 — Iran launched a series of ballistic missiles targeting US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain on Saturday, hours after the United States shot down four Iranian drones over the region.

The attack marks a sharp escalation in tensions between Iran and the United States in the Gulf.

According to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the missile strikes were carried out in retaliation for recent US military actions. Iranian state television reported that the strikes followed what it described as a “terrorist invasion” by US forces that killed children in the Sirik area and on Qeshm Island in southern Iran.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that it intercepted several Iranian ballistic missiles and drones directed toward the Strait of Hormuz and several Gulf countries. The US had earlier conducted air strikes on radar installations along Iran’s southern coast on Friday and shot down four Iranian drones on Saturday that it said posed a threat to maritime traffic.

Regional Reactions

  • Kuwait: The Kuwaiti military activated its air defence systems and confirmed that explosions heard across parts of the country were the result of intercepts. No casualties have been reported so far from the latest Iranian missile attack.
  • Bahrain: Air raid sirens sounded across the kingdom early on Saturday morning. The Ministry of Interior urged residents to remain calm and move to the nearest safe locations.

The latest exchange comes amid heightened regional tensions following previous incidents, including a reported attack on Kuwait International Airport several days earlier that killed one person and injured dozens.

No immediate details on casualties or damage from Iran’s missile strikes on US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain have been released by either side.

The situation in the Gulf remains tense, with both Kuwait and Bahrain on high alert.
