Seven-Month-Old Palestinian Baby Killed After Israeli Soldiers Open Fire on Family Car in Hebron

Kuala Lumpur – June 7, 2026 — A seven-month-old Palestinian baby boy was shot dead and his mother wounded when Israeli soldiers opened fire on their family vehicle in the Tel Rumeida area of Hebron on Friday afternoon.

The infant, identified as Sam Fahd Abu Haikal, was travelling in a car with his parents, 11-year-old brother and grandmother when the shooting occurred.

According to the family, they had stopped the vehicle after being signalled by Israeli troops. The father said he brought the car to a complete halt and raised his hands on the steering wheel. Despite the car being stationary and the family clearly visible in broad daylight through untinted windows, the soldiers opened fire from about 10 metres away.

One bullet struck both the baby and his mother before lodging in the mother’s body. The infant was rushed to hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries. The mother remains wounded.

The soldiers reportedly withdrew immediately after the shooting without offering assistance or explanation.

The mother was only informed of her son’s death on Saturday morning, as the family initially withheld the news due to concerns about her health.

Speaking at the funeral, the baby’s father, Fahd Abu Haikal, a lecturer at Bethlehem University, said: “A 7-month-old baby was cruelly killed. He didn’t deserve this.”

The grandmother, Ferial Abu Haikal, stated that a single bullet had hit her grandson and daughter-in-law.

The incident took place in the occupied West Bank. No immediate statement or response has been reported from the Israeli military regarding the shooting.
