Five Chinese Nationals Injured After Car Plunges Into Ravine In Machang

KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 — Five Chinese nationals, including two women, were injured after the car they were travelling in plunged into a ravine at a culvert construction site in Machang, Kelantan, late last night. The accident happened at Kilometer 41 of Jalan Kota Bharu-Kuala Krai, near Machang.

Machang District Police Chief Superintendent Azuhar Md Nor said police received information about the accident from members of the public at around 12.01 am. Early investigations found that the incident occurred at about 11.50 pm and involved a Toyota Prius driven by a 66-year-old Chinese man, who was travelling with four other passengers from the same country.

According to police, the group was travelling from Temangan, Machang, to Tok Bali, Pasir Puteh, using a navigation map application. The vehicle is believed to have entered a culvert construction site that was still under development and not yet open to the public before it fell into the ravine.

All five victims, consisting of three men and two women aged between 40 and 66, were rushed to Hospital Machang for further treatment. Two of the victims reportedly suffered serious injuries after being trapped inside the vehicle, while the other three sustained injuries in the crash.

The two seriously injured victims were identified as Wang Fuying, 59, and Wang Yumi, 61. The three other injured victims were identified as Pan Jieyin, 66, Yang Chuan, 40, and Zeng Guojin, 65, according to the rescue operation commander PBK 1 Mohd Fadzil Musa.

Police said the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Authorities also reminded road users to remain alert to warning signs, cones and barriers at construction sites, especially when driving at night.
