Workshop Owner Pleads Not Guilty To Machete Attack Charge In Shah Alam Court

KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 – A car workshop owner pleaded not guilty at the Shah Alam Sessions Court to a charge of slashing a man whom he allegedly did not know last year. The accused, K. Devaidran, 42, made the plea after the charge was read to him in Tamil before Judge ‘Ainul Bashiirah Dona Don Biyajid.

According to the charge, Devaidran was accused of intentionally causing grievous hurt to B. Kartigeyen, 39, by slashing the victim’s body, legs and hands with a machete. The alleged incident took place at Batu 14, Puchong, at about 11.30pm on January 25, 2025.

The charge was framed under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years, as well as a fine or whipping, if convicted. The case will now continue through the court process after the accused denied the charge.

During the proceeding, Deputy Public Prosecutor Amir Saifullah Mohammad Sallehuddin proposed bail of RM20,000 with one surety. The prosecution also requested additional conditions, including requiring the accused to report to the nearest police station, not disturb witnesses, especially the victim, and surrender his passport to the court if he has one.

However, defence lawyer Mohd Safwan Saleh appealed for bail to be set at a minimum amount. He told the court that Devaidran is married with one child, while his wife is undergoing recovery after spinal surgery.

The defence also said the accused’s workshop had to be closed because of the case, making it difficult for him to raise a high bail amount. After hearing submissions from both parties, the court allowed bail at RM10,000 with one surety and imposed the additional conditions proposed by the prosecution.

The court fixed August 13 for the next mention of the case. Until the legal process is completed, Devaidran remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty by the court.
