Malaysia Keeps OPR Unchanged At 2.75% For Seventh Straight Time

KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 – Malaysia’s central bank has kept the Overnight Policy Rate, or OPR, unchanged at 2.75% for the seventh consecutive time. The decision was announced after the latest Monetary Policy Committee meeting, with the current rate seen as suitable for Malaysia’s economic and inflation outlook.

The committee stated that the present monetary policy stance remains appropriate and consistent with the outlook for continued price stability and sustainable economic growth. This signals that policymakers are maintaining a cautious but steady approach as they assess domestic and global economic conditions.

The central bank also said it will continue to monitor current developments and evaluate the balance of risks surrounding Malaysia’s inflation and growth prospects. This includes external factors that may influence trade, commodity prices and overall economic momentum.

On the global front, the latest indicators show that overall growth remains resilient. The outlook has been supported by strong technology expansion, as well as improving supply conditions and prices of key commodities.

For Malaysia, recent developments point to resilient growth in the second quarter. The economy continued to be supported by sustained domestic demand, while export performance was stronger than expected.

The decision to maintain the OPR at 2.75% suggests that the central bank is not rushing to tighten or loosen monetary policy at this stage. Instead, the focus remains on keeping financial conditions stable while supporting economic activity and managing inflation risks.
