KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 – Malaysia is targeting to position itself as a global reference point for sustainable plantation agriculture driven by science, powered by innovation, rooted in sustainability and trusted by the international community. Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad said the government has outlined five key commitments to advance the national plantation agenda.
Speaking at the 11th International Planters Conference 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Noraini said the first commitment is to strengthen sustainability as the foundation of long-term competitiveness. She said economic growth must move in line with environmental responsibility and social inclusiveness.
The second commitment is to accelerate innovation by supporting research, digitalisation and the adoption of advanced technologies. These efforts are aimed at improving productivity, efficiency and resilience throughout the plantation value chain.
Noraini said the third commitment focuses on empowering smallholders and plantation communities. This is important to ensure that the country’s plantation transformation is inclusive and benefits those directly involved in the sector, especially small producers and rural communities.
The fourth commitment involves creating greater value through downstream industry upgrading, research commercialisation, bio-based products and the circular economy. According to Noraini, this approach will allow Malaysia’s commodities to contribute to high-value industries and become new sources of economic growth.
The fifth commitment is to strengthen international cooperation. Noraini said the future of sustainable plantation agriculture depends on stronger collaboration, wider knowledge-sharing and deeper mutual trust between countries.
At the same time, the government will continue to enhance the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil certification scheme, which reflects the country’s commitment to responsible production, environmental conservation and social accountability.
