KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 – Mercedes-AMG has entered a new chapter in compact performance cars with the all-new CLA 45 4MATIC+, now introduced as a fully electric performance model. The move marks a major departure from the previous petrol-powered CLA 45, as the new model no longer relies on the familiar 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine highlighted in the viral Instagram post.
The new Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 4MATIC+ is powered by three axial flux electric motors, delivering up to 500 kW, or around 680 hp. According to Mercedes-AMG, the system allows the sedan to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds, placing it firmly in high-performance EV territory.
The electric drivetrain uses two motors at the rear and one at the front, creating a high-output all-wheel-drive setup. Reports also state that the model produces up to 1,759 Nm of torque, giving the CLA 45 strong acceleration and instant electric response.
Beyond raw performance, the new CLA 45 also brings long-distance capability. Mercedes-AMG says the sedan offers a WLTP range of more than 670 kilometres, supported by an 800-volt electrical architecture. This makes the car not only fast, but also more practical for longer journeys compared with many earlier performance EVs.
The model is equipped with a 94 kWh AMG-specific high-voltage battery designed for sustained performance. Mercedes-Benz Malaysia describes the battery as using advanced liquid cooling to maintain precise temperature control, an important feature for repeated acceleration and high-performance driving.
Charging performance is also a key part of the new CLA 45’s appeal. Industry reports state that its 800-volt system supports DC fast charging of up to 330 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in about 22 minutes.
Design-wise, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia says the new AMG CLA 45 carries a more rebellious character, with AMG-specific styling elements that sharpen its overall presence. The model continues to maintain the sleek CLA silhouette while adding stronger visual cues linked to AMG performance.
The arrival of the electric CLA 45 shows how AMG is adapting its performance identity for the EV era. Instead of focusing only on engine sound and combustion power, the brand is now combining instant electric torque, advanced battery technology, high-speed charging and digital driving features.
