Lexus LFA Concept Makes Surprise Electric Hill-Climb Debut at Goodwood 2026

KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 – Lexus gave its next-generation LFA Concept its first public dynamic appearance at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, unexpectedly sending the electric supercar up the event’s famous hill-climb course.

The vehicle had initially been scheduled only for a static appearance in the Supercar Paddock. However, Lexus added the heavily camouflaged concept to the festival’s high-speed sessions, offering spectators an early look at the model in motion.

Its appearance came 17 years after the original V10-powered Lexus LFA was shown in prototype form at the same British motoring event. The latest concept carries forward the identity and emotional appeal of the original model while adopting a fully electric powertrain.

The LFA Concept appeared alongside GAZOO Racing’s GR GT and GR GT3 prototypes. Lexus said the three high-performance vehicles share several technologies, although the company has not yet released detailed specifications for the electric concept’s battery, motors, power output or performance figures.

The trio also represents Toyota’s broader approach to developing different powertrain technologies. While the GR GT and GR GT3 explore road-going and competition-focused hybrid systems, the LFA Concept demonstrates the potential of battery-electric technology in the high-performance sports-car segment.

Driving duties during the four-day festival, held from July 9 to 12, were shared by several experienced motorsport figures. They included World Rally Championship driver Elfyn Evans, Toyota Racing Vice-Chairman Kazuki Nakajima, development driver Hiroaki Ishiura and four-time Super GT champion Sho Tsuboi.

Super GT driver Yuichi Nakayama and German racing driver Uwe Kleen, who is known for his experience at the Nürburgring, were also among the drivers involved in the demonstrations.

Lexus describes the concept as its vision for a next-generation electric sports car that combines advanced performance with emotional appeal. Its development focuses on integrating aerodynamic efficiency with sculptural design to create a distinctive and immersive driving experience.

Project General Manager Yukihiro Yukita said the vehicle was designed to explore experiences that could be unique to an electric Lexus sports car rather than simply reproducing the characteristics of an existing combustion-powered model.

The concept’s low proportions, long bonnet, rear-positioned cabin and performance-oriented bodywork suggest that Lexus intends to maintain the dramatic grand-touring character associated with the original LFA.

However, Lexus has not announced whether the concept has been approved for production, when a road-going version could be introduced or how closely the final vehicle may resemble the camouflaged prototype displayed at Goodwood.
