Woman Dies, Two Missing After Falling From Sultan Nazrin Shah Bridge

KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 – A woman died and two others, including a two-year-old boy, were reported missing after they were believed to have fallen from the Sultan Nazrin Shah Bridge in Bagan Datuk, Perak, in two separate incidents on Friday, July 17, 2026.

The deceased was identified as Lim Li Yin, 38, who died while receiving treatment at the Bagan Datuk Health Clinic. The missing child was identified as Wong Long Hee, aged two, while the other missing victim was Mohd Nor Ferdaus Mohd Mokhtar, 42.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Sayani Saidun said the department received information from the police at 11.36am regarding a man who was believed to have fallen from the bridge.

When firefighters arrived at the location, they found a Modenas Z15 GT motorcycle believed to belong to the victim parked on the road shoulder above the bridge. A fire control post was subsequently established to coordinate the rescue operation.

A surface search involving boats from the Fire and Rescue Department and the Civil Defence Force began at 12.12pm. The operation covered an area within a three-kilometre radius from the location where the victim was believed to have fallen.

The department’s Water Rescue Team arrived at 4.33pm and continued searching from the surface. However, strong currents prevented rescuers from conducting an underwater diving operation.

At approximately 7.15pm, the rescue team received another report from the police stating that an adult woman and a child had fallen from the same bridge in a separate incident.

Firefighters responding by boat found the woman floating in the water, but the child could not be located. Rescue personnel administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation before the woman was taken by Civil Defence Force ambulance to the Bagan Datuk Health Clinic.

Despite receiving emergency treatment, the woman was later pronounced dead. Her body was transported to Teluk Intan Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The search and rescue operation for the two missing victims was suspended at 8.20pm because of weather conditions and safety concerns. Authorities said the operation was scheduled to resume at 8am on Saturday, July 18.
