Anwar Ibrahim to Campaign at Four Negeri Sembilan Locations Ahead of August 1 Poll

KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 – Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to attend four campaign programmes across Seremban and Paroi on Wednesday, July 22, as Pakatan Harapan intensifies its preparations for the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election.

Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan chairman and PKR president, will begin his campaign schedule at 4pm with the Santai Petang Bersama Warga Ampangan programme at Benteng @ Medan Selera Ampangan.

He is then expected to attend the Jelajah Rakan Muda programme at the Negeri Sembilan Youth and Sports Complex, commonly known as KOMBES, in Paroi at 5pm. The event is expected to provide an opportunity for the coalition leadership to engage directly with young voters and local residents.

Anwar’s evening schedule will begin at 8pm with the Sikamat state constituency Unity Dinner at Taman Sri Penaga. He will later join Pakatan Harapan’s main campaign rally for the Paroi constituency at Taipan 2 in Senawang town centre.

The four programmes will mark Anwar’s first appearance in Negeri Sembilan during the current state election campaign. Earlier reports had indicated that he would join coalition leaders and election workers in supporting Pakatan Harapan’s campaign activities in Sikamat and Paroi.

The Election Commission has set July 28 for early voting, while regular polling will take place on August 1. Political parties are therefore entering the final phase of campaigning as they seek to strengthen voter support across the state.

The Negeri Sembilan election is being closely watched following political developments involving Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional, which remain partners in the federal administration but have faced growing differences at the state level.

Pakatan Harapan currently leads the Negeri Sembilan administration and is contesting all 36 seats in the state legislative assembly. The election will determine whether the coalition can retain control of the state amid increasingly competitive campaigns by Barisan Nasional and other political blocs.

The campaign also follows Pakatan Harapan’s major setback in the Johor state election, where Barisan Nasional secured 48 of the 56 seats contested. Although state election results do not directly affect the federal government’s parliamentary majority, they could influence relations between the two coalitions and shape preparations for the next national election.
