KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 – Two teenage motorcyclists died following a collision involving their motorcycles along Jalan Felda Cherul towards Bukit Sagu in Chukai, Kemaman, on Friday, July 24.
Kemaman District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Razi Rosli said the accident occurred at approximately 6.45pm and involved two 16-year-old riders identified as Muhammad Shafiq Hakimi Mohd Nazri and Muhammad Hafiey Rifqey Mohd Mahazan.
Both teenagers sustained severe injuries to their heads and bodies. Medical personnel who arrived at the scene later confirmed that they had died at the location.
Muhammad Shafiq Hakimi was a student enrolled in the Felda Cherul Community-Based Rehabilitation Programme and had a learning disability. Muhammad Hafiey Rifqey was a student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Cherul.
Preliminary police investigations found that the crash happened on a straight section of the road. Muhammad Shafiq Hakimi was travelling from Felda Cherul towards Bukit Sagu, while Muhammad Hafiey Rifqey was riding from the opposite direction.
Police believe the motorcycle ridden by Muhammad Hafiey Rifqey entered the opposite lane upon reaching the location, causing the two motorcycles to collide. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
The impact of the collision reportedly threw both riders several metres onto the road. They were subsequently pronounced dead by the medical team attending the scene.
The bodies of both victims were taken to the Forensic Unit at Kemaman Hospital for further examination and post-mortem procedures.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death.
The fatal incident has once again highlighted concerns over motorcycle safety, particularly among young and inexperienced riders. Road users are advised to remain within their designated lanes, control their speed and exercise greater caution when travelling on two-way roads.
