KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 – A total of 38 early voting centres for the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election opened promptly at 8am on Tuesday, July 28, enabling members of the security forces and their spouses to fulfil their civic responsibilities.
According to statistics from the Election Commission, 22,339 registered early voters are eligible to participate in the process across the state.
Of the total, 16,884 Malaysian Armed Forces personnel and their spouses are scheduled to cast their ballots at eight designated voting centres.
The remaining 5,455 early voters consist of Royal Malaysia Police personnel and their spouses, who will vote at 30 centres across Negeri Sembilan.
The voting centres will close in stages according to the schedule determined by the Election Commission. Closing times will begin from noon, while the final centres are expected to close at 5pm.
The early voting process is intended for eligible security personnel who may be assigned official duties during the main polling day.
Ballot boxes used for early voting will be securely stored until the official counting process begins after regular polling ends.
Observations during the morning found that weather conditions were generally clear in most areas, helping the voting process proceed smoothly.
Attention will then shift to the main polling day on Saturday, August 1, when approximately 889,490 regular voters are expected to cast their ballots.
Voters will determine the representatives for all 36 seats in the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly, with 103 candidates officially contesting the election.
Pakatan Harapan is fielding the highest number of candidates, with representatives contesting all 36 state seats.
Barisan Nasional has nominated 25 candidates, while Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia is fielding 24 candidates.
Perikatan Nasional is contesting through 11 candidates, while four independent candidates are also seeking election.
Barisan Jamaah Islamiah Semalaysia, Parti Orang Asli Malaysia and Parti Sosialis Malaysia are each fielding one candidate.
The Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly was officially dissolved on June 5 to pave the way for the state election.
The Election Commission subsequently fixed August 1 as polling day, giving political parties several weeks to campaign and present their policies to voters.
