Indian National Found Safe After Getting Lost at Kanching Waterfall

KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — An Indian national who was reported missing after getting lost near Kanching Waterfall was found safe following a search-and-rescue operation by the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department.

The department received an emergency call regarding the missing man at approximately 2.37pm on Monday.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Operations Assistant Director Ashrul Riezal Asbar said eight firefighters and officers from the Rawang Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to the location with an emergency vehicle.

The rescue team had to travel approximately seven kilometres to reach the search area near the waterfall.

Upon arriving at the scene, the operation commander was informed that the man was believed to have lost his way in the area surrounding Kanching Waterfall.

Attempts to contact him were unsuccessful, prompting firefighters to begin searching the forest around the recreational site.

The search operation continued for several hours as rescuers worked to determine the man’s location within the wooded and uneven terrain.

The victim was eventually located at approximately 10.30pm and was reported to be in a safe condition.

Firefighters then escorted him out of the forest and brought him to a secure location.

No injuries were reported, and the operation concluded successfully after the victim was safely recovered.

The incident highlights the risks visitors may face when exploring waterfall and forest areas, particularly when travelling along unfamiliar routes or remaining outdoors after dark.

Visitors to recreational forests are advised to remain on designated trails, avoid hiking alone and ensure their mobile phones are sufficiently charged before beginning outdoor activities.

They should also inform family members or friends about their intended route and expected return time so emergency services can respond more effectively if they become lost.

Kanching Waterfall is a popular recreational destination surrounded by forested terrain, where changing weather, limited visibility and unclear paths may make navigation difficult for visitors unfamiliar with the area.

The successful rescue was supported by the rapid deployment of personnel from the Rawang Fire and Rescue Station and the continued search effort until the missing man was found.
