ByteDance Trains 10-Trillion-Parameter AI Model to Challenge Anthropic

KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — ByteDance, the Chinese technology company behind TikTok, has reportedly started training a new artificial intelligence model that could contain as many as 10 trillion parameters, marking another major step in China’s rapidly expanding AI race.

The model is being developed to compete with advanced systems from global AI companies, including Anthropic. Industry observers cited in the report estimate that Anthropic’s Mythos 5 model has around eight trillion parameters, although Anthropic has not publicly confirmed those figures.

ByteDance’s new system is also reported to be more than three times larger in parameter count than Moonshot AI’s Kimi K3, which is estimated at around 2.8 trillion parameters.

The company, which previously introduced its Seedance video-generation model, is aiming to develop an AI system with stronger overall intelligence and improved capabilities compared with its existing models.

The upcoming model is expected to focus particularly on advanced coding and reasoning tasks. It is also reportedly being developed without relying on model distillation from competing AI systems.

However, ByteDance has not announced an official launch date. The project remains in the early training stage, with pre-training expected to take approximately three to six months before additional fine-tuning begins.

The development highlights growing competition among Chinese technology companies seeking to produce more capable AI models and challenge major global players in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence industry.

If successful, ByteDance’s new model could further strengthen China’s position in the global AI market and add another major competitor to the race for increasingly powerful reasoning and programming systems.
