Porsche Brings Back Manual 911 Carrera S With 473 HP for 2027

KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — Porsche has answered calls from driving enthusiasts by reintroducing a manual transmission to the 911 Carrera S, unveiling the new 2027 Porsche 911 Carrera S with MT Package exclusively for the North American market.

The announcement marks a significant change for the facelifted 992.2-generation Carrera S, which initially arrived with only Porsche’s eight-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission. The new MT Package adds a six-speed manual gearbox shared with the 911 Carrera T, paired exclusively with rear-wheel drive.

Available in both Coupe and Cabriolet body styles, the new model was developed with a greater emphasis on driver involvement rather than simply delivering the quickest acceleration figures. Porsche says the specification builds on the philosophy of the Carrera T while adding significantly more power and a broader range of customisation options.

Power comes from Porsche’s 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, producing 473 horsepower. The combination gives the Carrera S MT considerably more power than the Carrera T while retaining the traditional three-pedal driving experience.

Despite additional performance equipment, Porsche has worked to keep weight under control. The Carrera S Coupe with MT Package weighs 3,327 pounds, only 11 pounds more than the Carrera T Coupe.

The model also receives a substantial list of chassis upgrades as standard.

These include rear-axle steering, PASM Sport suspension that lowers the ride height by 10mm, the Sport Chrono Package and specially tuned exhaust characteristics. Porsche is also fitting centre-lock wheels to a Carrera S for the first time, saving more than 17 pounds compared with the regular Carrera S wheels.

Inside, Porsche reinforces the analogue character of the car with a walnut shift lever, while four-way Sport Seats Plus are fitted as standard. Buyers can upgrade to 14-way or 18-way sports seats, as well as lightweight carbon-fibre bucket seats.

Other standard details include titanium exhaust outlets with black trim, a SportDesign front fascia and a distinctive red “S” badge at the rear.

An optional interior package adds Plaid Sport-Tex seat centres with Chalk-coloured stripes, matching seat belts and stitching, Ceramica trim elements and black brushed-aluminium accents. The Sport Chrono clock also receives a white accent ring.

Porsche is giving customers extensive opportunities for individualisation, with 17 standard exterior paint colours, Paint to Sample options and more than 70 leather interior configurations available.

The Carrera S MT retains the substantial braking system used by other Carrera S variants, including 408mm front and 380mm rear cast-iron brake discs, with six-piston front and four-piston rear fixed calipers.

Customers looking for additional performance can specify Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), another feature that helps distinguish the manual Carrera S from the less powerful Carrera T.

Porsche says the model was created in response to strong customer demand for a manual Carrera S. Timo Resch, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, said the company remains committed to offering three-pedal sports cars even as many manufacturers continue moving away from manual transmissions.

The arrival of the Carrera S MT significantly expands Porsche’s manual-transmission offering in North America.

Alongside the Carrera T Coupe and Cabriolet, Porsche continues to offer manual configurations among its more focused GT models, including the 911 GT3 family.

The Carrera S MT therefore occupies an important position between the comparatively accessible Carrera T and Porsche’s hardcore GT models, combining 473 hp, three pedals and a high level of everyday customisation.

Orders for the 2027 Porsche 911 Carrera S with MT Package are already open in North America.

The Coupe starts at US$167,100, while the Cabriolet begins at US$181,000, excluding a US$2,350 delivery, processing and handling fee. Porsche expects deliveries to begin by the end of 2026.

Its debut during Monterey Car Week reinforces a message increasingly important to enthusiast drivers: even as performance cars become faster, more electrified and more automated, Porsche still sees a place for the traditional combination of a clutch pedal, manual gear lever and rear-wheel drive.

The new Carrera S MT Package brings that formula back with considerably more performance than the Carrera T, positioning it as one of the most compelling driver-focused additions to the latest 911 generation.
