Man Suffers Burns as Fire Destroys Three Squatter Houses in Sentul

KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — A 26-year-old man was injured in a fire that destroyed three squatter houses in Kampung Kasipillay, Sentul, early Monday morning.

The victim suffered burns to his body and legs and was subsequently transported to the red zone of Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) for further treatment.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Operations Division Assistant Director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the Kuala Lumpur Operations Centre received an emergency call through the NG999 line at approximately 1.15am.

Following the call, a total of 28 firefighters and officers were deployed to the scene with fire engines and equipment.

Personnel from the Sentul Fire and Rescue Station were supported by teams from the Hang Tuah and Gombak Selatan fire stations during the emergency response.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters discovered that the blaze involved three semi-permanent squatter houses classified as Class C structures.

The fire caused 100 per cent destruction to the affected structures, according to the Fire and Rescue Department.

Firefighters eventually managed to bring the blaze fully under control, preventing it from spreading further within the surrounding area.

The 26-year-old man was found to have sustained burn injuries involving his body and legs.

Due to the severity of the injuries reported at the scene, he was sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital and placed in the hospital’s red zone for further medical attention.

No additional casualties were reported in the initial statement.

Authorities have yet to determine what triggered the fire.

The Fire and Rescue Department’s Forensic Unit is investigating the cause of the blaze, and no official conclusion has been announced.

The department also did not immediately disclose an estimated value of the losses caused by the destruction of the three homes.

The incident once again highlights the potentially devastating impact of fires involving semi-permanent residential structures, where flames can spread quickly between closely positioned buildings.

Rapid emergency response is particularly important in such incidents because construction materials and the close proximity of neighbouring structures can increase the risk of a fire spreading before it is brought under control.

For now, investigators are focusing on establishing how the Kampung Kasipillay fire started, while the injured man continues to receive hospital treatment.
