Vocational College Student Dies After Neck Struck by Sickle Carried on Passing Motorcycle in Teluk Intan

TELUK INTAN, March 10 — A vocational college student has died after being fatally struck in the neck by a long‑handled sickle carried on another motorcycle while travelling in Teluk Intan, Perak, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

The victim, identified as a 19‑year‑old male student, was riding pillion on a motorcycle with two friends when the bizarre and tragic incident occurred along Jalan Sekolah in the Parit Haji Mohd Salleh area.

Fatal Blow from Passing Motorcycle

According to Teluk Intan District Police Chief ACP Jamaludin Md Amin, the victim was on the back seat of a motorcycle being driven by his 18‑year‑old friend, who was en route to a college near the location of the incident. At around 7.15am, a passing motorcycle — also travelling in the same direction — had a long‑handled sickle attached horizontally across its rear rack.

As the two vehicles rode close together, the protruding sickle reportedly struck the victim’s neck, causing severe and immediately life‑threatening injuries.

Paramedics were alerted and arrived at the scene shortly after the collision, but the student succumbed to his injuries shortly after being taken to Teluk Intan Hospital.

Police Seek Suspects

Police are appealing for information to help locate the individuals riding the motorcycle that was carrying the sickle at the time of the incident. Investigators have classified the case as a sudden death and are conducting inquiries under Section 41(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code to determine whether any offence has been committed.

“We urge anyone with information relating to this case — especially those who witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam footage — to come forward and assist in the investigation,” ACP Jamaludin said.

Community Shocked by Tragedy

The unusual and tragic nature of the incident has shocked local residents in Teluk Intan. Neighbours and friends expressed disbelief that a simple ride to school could end in such a horrific accident.

The community has also raised concerns about unsafe loads and objects protruding from vehicles, which can pose serious risks to other road users.

Police Warn Against Unsafe Items on Motorcycles

Police have used the incident to remind road users about the dangers of carrying long‑handled tools, sharp objects or oversized loads on motorcycles without proper securing measures.

Authorities say that protruding objects not only endanger other road users but can also lead to criminal liability if they result in injury or death.

“We want to emphasise that all objects carried on motorcycles must be properly secured and positioned in a way that does not pose a risk to others,” ACP Jamaludin said.

Call for Road Safety Awareness

Traffic safety advocates have echoed police warnings, urging riders and drivers to prioritise safety and avoid carrying dangerous objects in unsafe ways.

The tragic death of the young student highlights the importance of responsible vehicle loading and road awareness, particularly in busy urban and school zones.
