Truck Driver Dies After Being Thrown Out Before Vehicle Catches Fire in Highway Crash

KLANG, April 7 — A truck driver died after being ejected from his vehicle moments before it burst into flames in a fatal crash on a major highway early this morning, police confirmed.

The incident occurred at around 4:30 am along the Federal Highway stretch near Klang, where authorities received an emergency report of a severe collision involving a heavy‑load lorry. When firefighters and police arrived at the scene, they found the truck completely engulfed in flames, with the victim’s body later discovered nearby.

Initial investigations suggest that the driver may have lost control of the truck, causing it to veer off the road and collide with a roadside barrier before overturning and catching fire. The force of the impact reportedly caused the driver to be thrown out of the cabin, an outcome that emergency responders say likely contributed to the fatal injuries.

Police said the identity of the victim is being confirmed and next‑of‑kin have been notified. Authorities are working to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the crash, including whether speed, mechanical failure, or road conditions played a role.

Highway patrol officers have cordoned off the area to facilitate forensic examinations and clear the wreckage. Traffic was temporarily diverted, resulting in delays for morning commuters.

Emergency medical teams also attended the scene to assist with rescue operations, but the driver was pronounced dead at the site due to severe trauma before being taken to hospital.

Klang police chief Superintendent Mohd Zulkifli Mohd Zain urged motorists to remain vigilant, especially during early morning and late night hours when visibility is poor and driver fatigue is more common. “We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. Road safety remains a shared responsibility, and drivers must take extra care on highways,” he said.

Authorities said the truck was loaded with commercial goods at the time of the crash, but it was unclear whether the load contributed to the severity of the incident.

The investigation remains active, with police collecting witness statements and reviewing any available CCTV or dashcam footage to reconstruct the crash. Authorities aim to release a more detailed report once the inquiry is complete.

Road accidents involving heavy vehicles have been a persistent concern in Malaysia, particularly on high‑speed intercity routes where collisions often result in significant injuries or fatalities.

Safety advocates continue to call for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, regular vehicle maintenance checks, and increased awareness about the dangers of driving while fatigued or at excessive speeds.
