Analyst Views

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd’s Vice President of Equity Research, Thong Pak Leng, noted that the market is trading with caution due to Brent crude oil prices remaining firm above US$104 per barrel.

“We encourage investors to buy on dips if the index falls to the support level of 1,720–1,730. For today, the index is expected to hover within the 1,740–1,750 range,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hong Leong Investment Bank (HLIB) expects cautious sentiment to persist, influenced by global geopolitical developments including tensions in the Gulf, the Israel-Lebanon situation, and the upcoming Trump-Xi Jinping summit in Beijing, which will cover trade, Taiwan, AI chips, rare earths, and Iran.

Locally, investors are focusing on first-quarter 2026 corporate earnings, which are expected to provide strong insights into the resilience of Malaysia’s economy.
