Maybank Leads RM624 Million Foreign Outflow from Bursa Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, AUGUST 2026 — Foreign institutions extended their selling streak on Bursa Malaysia for a second consecutive week, recording RM623.6 million in net outflows during the week ended August 14, according to MBSB Investment Bank.

Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) was among the key counters leading foreign selling during the period, while the financial services sector experienced the largest overall withdrawal of overseas funds.

Financial services recorded RM469.3 million in net foreign outflows, followed by industrial products and services at RM121.2 million and consumer products and services at RM89.6 million.

Foreign investors were net sellers throughout the trading week. The largest daily outflow was recorded on Friday at RM181.3 million, followed by Tuesday at RM171.4 million, Thursday at RM125.9 million, Wednesday at RM92.2 million and Monday at RM52.8 million.

Despite continued foreign selling, domestic investors helped absorb some of the pressure. Local institutions recorded RM355.5 million in net purchases, extending their buying streak to a third consecutive week.

Retail investors also returned as net buyers after two weeks of selling, recording RM268.1 million in net inflows during the week.

Several sectors continued to attract foreign capital despite the broader outflow. Transportation and logistics recorded RM103.8 million in net foreign inflows, followed by telecommunications and media at RM34.9 million and energy at RM19.7 million.

The latest figures highlight continued caution among foreign investors toward Malaysian equities, particularly financial stocks, while sustained buying from local institutions and retail investors continues to provide support to the domestic market.
