Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Reclaims Nürburgring EV Lap Record With 6:55.533-Minute Run

KUALA LUMPUR,MAY,2026 – Porsche has reclaimed the Nürburgring electric lap record after the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package and a newly developed Manthey Kit completed the legendary Nordschleife in 6:55.533 minutes.

The record run was achieved by Porsche development driver Lars Kern at the 20.832 km Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit. Porsche confirmed that the lap time was certified by a notary present on site, making it a new benchmark in the electric executive cars class.

The result marks a major improvement over Kern’s previous best time in a Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package, which stood at 7:07.550 minutes. With the Manthey Kit, Porsche managed to reduce the lap time by around 12 seconds, underlining the effectiveness of the new track-focused upgrades.

According to Paul Tan, the Taycan Turbo GT also regained the title from BYD’s Yangwang U9 Xtreme, which had set a time of 6:59.157 minutes in AugXiaomi SU7 Ultra, which recorded 7:04.957 minutes in April 2025.

The Manthey Kit was developed specifically for the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package and will be available to order from June as

The upgrade focuses heavily on aerodynamics, suspension, tyres, braking and powertrain tuning. Porsche said the kit increases downforce by more than three times compared with the standard model, giving the Taycan greater stability at high speed and more confidence through fast corners.

At 200 km/h, total downforce rises from 95 kg to 310 kg. At the car’s increased top speed of 310 km/h, the Manthey-equipped Taycan Turbo GT produces around 740 kg of total downforce in its high-downforce setup.

Key aerodynamic components include a new rear wing with enlarged end plates, an optimised front diffuser, a high-performance rear diffuser with extended fins, larger underbody air deflectors and carbon aerodiscs on the rear wheels. Porsche also allows adjustment of the rear wing and front diffuser to suit different circuit conditions.

The chassis has also been retuned for track use. The Manthey Kit includes a specific setup for Porsche Active Ride, front- and rear-axle steering, and the all-wheel-drive system. This helps improve agility, steering precision and cornering grip during high-speed circuit driving.

Porsche also fitted newly developed 21-inch forged aluminium wheels for the kit. Despite being larger, the wheels are lighter than the standard units, while wider road-legal track tyres are offered as an option to further improve grip.

The powertrain has been upgraded as well. Optimisations to the high-voltage battery, control unit and pulse inverters increase the maximum discharge current from 1,100 amps to 1,300 amps. As a result, system output rises by 20 kW to 600 kW, while Launch Control torque increases to 1,270 Nm.

With Attack Mode activated, the Taycan Turbo GT with Manthey Kit can temporarily deliver up to 730 kW, compared with 700 kW previously. This short power boost lasts for 10 seconds and is designed for maximum performance during track driving.

Braking performance has also been enhanced through larger discs measuring 440 mm at the front and 410 mm at the rear, along with performance brake pads. These upgrades are intended to provide stronger and more consistent stopping power during repeated high-speed laps.

Visually, the Manthey Kit gives the Taycan Turbo GT a more aggressive motorsport appearance. Exposed carbon-fibre components can be seen on the wheel arch vents, extensions, side skirts and rear wing, reinforcing the car’s circuit-focused character.

For Porsche, the new record is more than just a lap time. It shows how far electric performance cars have progressed, especially when supported by advanced aerodynamics, software tuning, battery optimisation and race-derived chassis development.

The Taycan Turbo GT with Manthey Kit also strengthens Porsche’s position in the growing battle for high-performance EV supremacy. With Chinese brands such as BYD and Xiaomi already challenging traditional performance carmakers, the Nürburgring has become an important stage for proving electric vehicle capability.

Overall, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Manthey Kit is now one of the fastest four-door electric cars ever to lap the Nürburgring. Its record time of 6:55.533 minutes confirms that Porsche’s electric performance programme remains highly competitive, especially when combined with Manthey’s track-focused engineering expertise.
