Bursa Malaysia Ends Morning Session Lower Amid Selling Pressure

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25, 2026 – Bursa Malaysia closed the morning trading session in negative territory today, weighed down by sustained selling in selected heavyweights, particularly in the industrial products and services as well as utilities sectors.

At 12:30 p.m., the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slipped 2.16 points, or 0.12%, to 1,710.51 compared to Friday’s close of 1,712.67.

The index opened 1.24 points lower at 1,711.43 and traded within a range of 1,705.94 to 1,713.50 during the morning session.

Market breadth was negative, with decliners outpacing gainers at 571 to 351, while 525 counters remained unchanged. A total of 1.69 billion shares worth RM1.43 billion changed hands.

Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd noted that investors remain cautious ahead of the peak of the first-quarter 2026 earnings reporting season, rising domestic political uncertainty — including speculation of a surprise state election — and continued foreign fund outflows.

We believe the FBM KLCI is poised for stabilisation, supported by falling bond yields, lower oil prices, and improving sentiment surrounding US-Iran negotiations after President Donald Trump described the talks as ‘constructive’,” the bank said in a research note today.

“Despite near-term uncertainties, we remain cautiously positive on Malaysia, underpinned by its status as a net oil exporter, resilient trade networks, exposure to the global tech upcycle, and supportive fiscal conditions,” it added.
