Two Men Arrested Over Cable Theft After Trying to Evade Police Check in Seremban

KUALA LUMPUR,June,2026 — Police arrested two men suspected of cable theft after they allegedly attempted to evade a police inspection near Jalan Tun Dr Ismail in Seremban yesterday.

Seremban district police chief ACP Mohd Yatim Osman said police received a report regarding the theft at 10.45am before officers managed to arrest two suspects, both in their 30s, inside a Proton Waja. Another suspect managed to escape and remains at large.

According to Mohd Yatim, early interviews with the two detained suspects led them to admit their involvement in cable theft together with another friend who is still being tracked by police.

Police inspection of the Proton Waja uncovered 14 pieces of equipment believed to have been used to steal cables. Officers also found several scheduled weapons and two packets suspected to contain drugs.

The discovery of tools, weapons and suspected drugs has expanded the investigation beyond cable theft, as police are now looking into several possible offences linked to the suspects and the seized items.

Mohd Yatim said both suspects have previous records involving drug-related and criminal offences. One suspect has seven prior records, while the other has 10 prior records.

The case is being investigated under Section 186 and Section 279 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.

Section 186 of the Penal Code generally relates to obstructing public servants in the discharge of public functions, while Section 279 involves rash or negligent driving on a public way. The inclusion of these sections suggests the suspects may have attempted to avoid or obstruct police during the incident.

Both suspects are expected to be taken to the Seremban Court for a remand application. Police said the Proton Waja seized in the case was registered under a woman’s name but was used by the suspect who remains at large.

The incident highlights continued concerns over cable theft, which can disrupt public infrastructure, telecommunications services and local utility operations. Such crimes often cause wider inconvenience to residents and businesses when stolen cables affect electricity, internet or communication networks.

Cable theft cases are also treated seriously because they may involve organised activity, the use of specialised tools and resale of stolen metal or wiring components.

In this case, the suspects’ attempt to evade police inspection became a key moment that led to the arrest and discovery of suspected theft tools, weapons and drugs.

Police are continuing efforts to locate the third suspect who escaped during the incident. Members of the public with information about the case have been urged to contact investigating officer Sgt Amram Ismail at 019-9661346 or the Seremban district police headquarters at 06-6033222.

the arrest of the two men marks an important development in the Seremban cable theft investigation, as police continue to track the remaining suspect and determine the full extent of the group’s alleged activities.
