Pakatan Harapan to Announce Johor State Election Candidates in Bukit Gambir, Says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR,June, 2026 — Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will attend the coalition’s announcement ceremony for its candidates in the 16th Johor State Election in Bukit Gambir, Tangkak, tomorrow.

In a social media post today, Anwar said he would join other PH leaders at the event, which is scheduled to take place at 8pm at the Bukit Gambir Extreme Park field.

The announcement is expected to be one of Pakatan Harapan’s key early campaign moments ahead of the Johor polls, as the coalition prepares to introduce the candidates who will represent its election machinery across the state.

Anwar said he would be in Bukit Gambir to join PH leaders in announcing the candidates who will carry the people’s mandate in the upcoming state election. He also said Johor deserves leadership with integrity, capability and a strong work ethic to advance the state’s development and the well-being of all its people.

The Prime Minister also invited members of the public to attend the event, describing the candidate announcement as the first step towards victory.

The event will be closely watched because candidate selection is one of the most important parts of any election campaign. The names announced by Pakatan Harapan will show the coalition’s strategy, seat focus and leadership lineup for the Johor state contest.

For voters, the announcement will provide the first clear picture of the candidates PH is placing in the race. It will also allow local communities to evaluate the coalition’s mix of experienced leaders, new faces and constituency-based representatives.

The Johor State Election is expected to be a major political test for Pakatan Harapan and its allies. Johor is one of Malaysia’s most important states economically and politically, with strong links to industry, trade, tourism, logistics, agriculture and cross-border activity with Singapore.

Because of that, campaign messages in Johor are likely to focus not only on politics, but also on development, cost of living, jobs, infrastructure, investment and public services.

Anwar’s statement that Johor needs leadership with integrity reflects PH’s expected campaign direction. The coalition is likely to frame its candidates around clean governance, development planning and people-focused leadership.

The choice of Bukit Gambir as the venue also carries political significance. As part of Tangkak, the area can serve as a strategic gathering point for PH supporters and local communities before the formal campaign period begins.

The Election Commission has set July 11 as polling day for the Johor state polls. Nomination day will be held on June 27, while early voting has been fixed for July 7.

This means political parties now have only a short window to finalise candidates, strengthen campaign machinery and begin direct engagement with voters before nomination day.

Once the candidate list is announced, PH will likely move qu

The Johor election is also expected to draw national attention because the outcome may influence the wider political mood in Malaysia. State polls often become a measure of public response to national leadership, economic policy and coalition performance.

For Pakatan Harapan, the candidate announcement will be an opportunity to show unity and readiness. It will also allow the coalition to present its message before the campaign becomes more competitive.

The presence of Anwar at the event is expected to give the announcement greater political weight. As PH chairman and Prime Minister, his participation signals that the coalition views the Johor state election as a serious priority.

The campaign will likely involve several major themes, including economic growth, state development, governance, social welfare and youth opportunities. Johor’s position as a major economic gateway also means investment and infrastructure may become important issues during the campaign.

At the same time, PH will need to convince voters that its candidates can address local concerns. These may include public transport, road conditions, housing affordability, job opportunities, cost of living and community-level services.

The candidate list will therefore be important not only for party branding, but also for voter trust. A strong lineup can help build momentum before nomination day, while controversial choices could create internal or public criticism.

As the election calendar moves closer, other coalitions are also expected to intensify their preparations. This will make the coming days important for shaping the early narrative of the Johor polls.

Pakatan Harapan’s candidate announcement in Bukit Gambir marks a key step in the coalition’s Johor State Election campaign. With polling day set for July 11, PH will now aim to build momentum, present its candidates clearly and convince voters that it can offer stable and capable leadership for the state.

The development is suitable for Update News because it involves a current political announcement, candidate selection for the Johor state polls and the latest election timeline confirmed by the Election Commission.
