Deadly Crash in Lenggong Claims Lives of Teacher and Police Officer, Five Others Injured

KUALA LUMPUR, JUNE 2026 — A tragic road accident in Lenggong has claimed the lives of a senior police officer and a female teacher, while five other teachers were injured in a crash involving two vehicles.

The incident occurred at Kilometre 30, Jalan Kuala Kangsar–Gerik–Pengkalan Hulu on Thursday evening.

The victims who died were identified as Inspector Melvindar Singh Gamum Singh, 41, who served with the Criminal Investigation Division at the Pengkalan Hulu District Police Headquarters, and Zuraida Abu Bakar, 47, a teacher at Kolej Vokasional Gerik.

The crash involved a Toyota Vios driven by the police officer and a Honda Odyssey carrying six women, including the driver.

According to the report, the group of teachers was believed to be travelling back to Gerik after attending a course at Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi MARA Lenggong. The Toyota Vios was travelling from Gerik towards Ipoh when the collision happened.

Five other female teachers who were travelling in the Honda Odyssey sustained injuries and were referred to the Lenggong Health Clinic for treatment.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Assistant Director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said authorities received information about the accident at 4.57pm.

A team of five personnel from the Lenggong Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene to carry out rescue operations.

There were victims trapped in both vehicles following the crash. Two victims were later confirmed dead at the scene by medical officers.

The deceased were handed over to the police for further action, while the injured victims were handed over to the medical team.

The rescue operation was brought under control at 5.40pm and fully ended at 6.12pm.

The incident has drawn public attention due to the tragic circumstances involving educators who were returning from a course, turning what should have been a normal journey home into a heartbreaking road tragedy.

The case also highlights the importance of road safety awareness, especially on major inter-district routes where long-distance travel and heavy traffic can increase accident risks.
