Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Rises To 4,734 As Thousands Remain Displaced

KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 – The death toll from two powerful earthquakes that hit Venezuela last month has increased to 4,734, according to National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez. The disaster has become one of the country’s most severe recent tragedies, with authorities still working to support affected families and displaced residents.

Rodriguez said 16,740 people were also injured following the earthquakes, which caused widespread destruction across affected areas. The two tremors, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, struck the South American nation on June 24.

Authorities have distributed aid to 128,324 families as recovery efforts continue. A total of 107 temporary shelters have also been opened, currently housing 20,903 people who were forced to leave their homes after the disaster.

Despite the ongoing response, 17,907 people are still without permanent housing. The figure highlights the scale of the humanitarian challenge facing Venezuela as communities try to rebuild after the deadly earthquakes.

The earthquakes also caused major damage to infrastructure, with 856 buildings reported damaged. Of that number, 190 buildings collapsed, adding further pressure on emergency services, rescue teams and local authorities involved in recovery operations.
