KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 – Malaysia has raised the retail prices of unsubsidised RON95 petrol and diesel following increased geopolitical risks in the Middle East and renewed volatility across the global oil market.
For the period from July 16 to July 22, unsubsidised RON95 petrol will increase by five sen to RM3.42 per litre, compared with RM3.37 per litre during the previous week. Unsubsidised diesel will rise by 10 sen, from RM3.97 to RM4.07 per litre.
The retail price of RON97 petrol will remain unchanged at RM4 per litre throughout the same period.
The Ministry of Finance said the latest adjustments were determined using the Automatic Pricing Mechanism and reflected movements in the international oil market during the preceding week.
Renewed United States attacks on Iran and growing concerns over the security of commercial routes through the Strait of Hormuz have increased crude-oil risk premiums and global shipping costs. The strategic waterway is an important route for international energy supplies, making any potential disruption a major concern for oil markets.
Brent crude reportedly reached US$85 per barrel after rising by approximately 20 per cent over two weeks. Petroleum product prices are expected to remain exposed to global market volatility as long as the conflict remains unresolved.
Despite the international uncertainty, the ministry said Malaysia’s domestic fuel supply remained sufficient. The government nevertheless encouraged consumers to use fuel responsibly by planning journeys more efficiently and reducing unnecessary travel.
The government said more prudent consumption could help preserve national fuel supplies and reduce pressure on public expenditure allocated to subsidies.
Prices for subsidised petroleum products will remain unchanged. RON95 supplied under the BUDI MADANI programme, known as BUDI95, will continue to be sold at RM1.99 per litre, while BUDI Diesel will remain at RM2.10 per litre.
Petrol supplied through the Subsidised Petrol Control System will remain at RM2.05 per litre, while diesel under the Subsidised Diesel Control System will continue to be priced at RM2.15 per litre.
Eligible Malaysian citizens may continue purchasing subsidised RON95 petrol and diesel using their MyKad under BUDI95 and BUDI Diesel, subject to their eligibility and remaining monthly allocation.
