PM Anwar Reaffirms Federal Stability Amid Negeri Sembilan Election Campaign

KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed that the Federal Unity Government remains stable and strong, saying political stability is essential to ensure Malaysia’s economic growth and investor confidence are not affected.

Speaking in Senawang during the Jelajah Kekal Harapan campaign event ahead of the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election, Anwar said cooperation among parties at the federal level remains positive, even though some of the same parties may compete against each other at the state level.

He said the smooth running of Cabinet meetings shows that the federal administration continues to function normally. Anwar also stressed that political differences at the state level should not be allowed to disrupt the stability of the national government.

According to Anwar, maintaining stability is important so that Malaysia’s economy does not face unnecessary disruption and investors continue to have confidence in the country.

The Prime Minister said recent Cabinet meetings continued as usual with key leaders, including Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and other members of the federal leadership.

His remarks come as political campaigning intensifies in Negeri Sembilan, where voters are set to choose their state representatives on August 1, while early voting is scheduled for July 28.

The Negeri Sembilan election is being closely watched as one of the key state polls that could reflect public sentiment toward both state and federal leadership.

During the event, Anwar also touched on the administration of Negeri Sembilan and repeated his support for Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun to remain as Menteri Besar if the coalition is given a renewed mandate by voters.

Anwar said the decision was based on Aminuddin’s service record, sincerity and good governance throughout his leadership of Negeri Sembilan.

The Prime Minister described Aminuddin as the best candidate to continue leading the state, pointing to his performance, personal character and administrative record.

Anwar also urged Negeri Sembilan to continue strengthening good governance and reject corrupt practices. He said the state should be developed as an example of clean and responsible administration.

For the upcoming state election, Pakatan Harapan is contesting all 36 seats in the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly. The lineup consists of 16 candidates from PKR, 11 from DAP and nine from Amanah.

The campaign event was also attended by Mohamad Sabu, DAP deputy secretary general Steven Sim, Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, Selangor Menteri Besar and Pakatan Harapan election director Datuk Amirudin Shari, as well as party leaders and election candidates.

Anwar’s message focused strongly on political continuity, economic confidence and cooperation among parties in the federal administration.
