KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 — The number of flood victims in Tawau, Sabah, remained unchanged as of 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, with 335 people from 96 families still taking shelter at a temporary relief centre (PPS).
According to the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, all evacuees continue to be accommodated at the Dewan Serbaguna Kompleks Sukan Tawau, which remains the only active relief centre serving flood-affected residents in the district.
Authorities said there had been no increase or decrease in the number of evacuees compared with the previous update, indicating that flood conditions in the affected areas had stabilized overnight.
Disaster response agencies continue to monitor weather conditions and water levels while coordinating relief operations to ensure the safety and well-being of displaced residents. Emergency personnel remain on standby should the situation change.
Officials are also providing essential services at the relief centre, including food supplies, medical assistance, and basic necessities for families affected by the flooding. State agencies have urged residents living in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain alert and follow official advisories, especially if heavy rainfall continues in the coming days.
Sabah is among the Malaysian states that regularly experience seasonal flooding during periods of prolonged rainfall. Authorities have reiterated the importance of public cooperation with evacuation orders and disaster management instructions to minimize risks during adverse weather conditions.
The State Disaster Management Committee said it will continue issuing periodic updates as the situation develops, while emergency responders remain prepared to assist affected communities if weather conditions deteriorate.
