KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 — A 28-year-old man was killed while two other people were injured after the car they were travelling in skidded off the road near Bulatan Aman in Sibu early on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
The single-vehicle accident involved a Perodua Myvi carrying three occupants. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle following the crash, while the two passengers managed to exit the car on their own.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre, an emergency call was received at 3.33 a.m. A team from the Sibu Sentral Fire and Rescue Station was immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, rescuers found that the two passengers were no longer trapped. However, the driver remained pinned in the driver’s seat and required assistance from the emergency team.
Firefighters used specialised road traffic accident rescue equipment to remove the driver from the damaged vehicle. He was subsequently handed over to medical personnel for examination but was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deceased was identified in other local reports as Mackson Manggi Kassim, aged 28.
The two surviving passengers were a 26-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man. The woman was reportedly semi-conscious following the accident, while the male passenger suffered minor injuries.
Both survivors received medical attention after managing to leave the vehicle without being trapped. Their latest conditions were not immediately disclosed.
The rescue operation involved eight firefighters, a Fire Rescue Tender and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services vehicle. The operation was fully concluded at approximately 4.30 a.m.
Police officers were also present at the scene and have begun further investigations to determine the circumstances that caused the car to lose control.
The fatal crash once again highlights the dangers of travelling during the early hours, when reduced visibility, fatigue, road conditions and vehicle speed may increase the risk of serious accidents.
Authorities continue to remind motorists to remain alert, observe speed limits and adjust their driving according to road and weather conditions, particularly when approaching roundabouts and unfamiliar routes.
