Two Suspected Cable Thieves Arrested After Toyota Hilux Crashes While Trying To Flee Police

KUALA LUMPUR,MAY,2026 – Two local men were arrested after they were suspected of being involved in telecommunication cable theft and allegedly attempted to ram police while trying to escape.

The incident involved suspects who were believed to have been detected stealing telecommunication cables before fleeing in a Toyota Hilux and a Toyota Hiace. A report shared by Berita Harian stated that two cable thieves were detained after the Toyota Hilux they were travelling in skidded, while a Toyota Hiace believed to be linked to the case managed to escape.

According to Harian Metro’s related update, the two local men were suspected of stealing telecommunication cables and attempting to ram police officers. The suspects reportedly fled in a Toyota Hilux and a van after realising the presence of enforcement personnel.

The case began when authorities reportedly detected suspicious activity involving the theft of telecommunication cables. The suspects were believed to have been handling cables inside an underground area before the attempted escape.

After noticing the presence of police, the suspects allegedly tried to flee the scene using separate vehicles. One vehicle, the Toyota Hilux, later skidded, allowing police to detain two men believed to be involved in the case.

A Toyota Hiace believed to have also been involved in the incident reportedly escaped from the scene. Authorities are believed to be tracking the vehicle and any other individuals linked to the cable theft case.

The incident has drawn attention because it involved not only suspected cable theft, but also an alleged attempt to endanger police officers during the escape. Cases involving suspects trying to ram enforcement personnel are treated seriously because they can put officers and members of the public at risk.

Cable theft remains a major concern because it can disrupt telecommunication services, damage public infrastructure and cause financial losses to service providers. Stolen cables may affect internet connections, phone lines and essential communication systems, particularly when underground or roadside cables are targeted.

The use of vehicles such as pickup trucks and vans in cable theft cases also suggests that such activities may involve planning and transport arrangements. Suspects often need vehicles to carry heavy cable materials, tools and equipment used during theft operations.

Police are expected to investigate several angles, including how the suspects gained access to the cables, whether more individuals were involved, and whether the incident was part of a larger organised cable theft group.

Investigators may also examine the vehicles involved, tools recovered from the scene, CCTV footage, witness statements and any recovered telecommunication cable materials to strengthen the case.

The arrest of the two men marks an important development, but the investigation is expected to continue, especially as another vehicle believed to be connected to the incident reportedly escaped.

For now, the case serves as another reminder of the risks posed by infrastructure theft. Beyond financial loss, cable theft can disrupt public communication networks and create safety hazards, especially when suspects damage underground installations or flee dangerously from enforcement teams.
