Eight Injured In Three-Vehicle Crash On North-South Expressway Near Sungai Petani

KUALA LUMPUR, June, 2026 – Eight people were injured after a three-vehicle crash occurred at Kilometre 94 of the southbound North-South Expressway near Sungai Petani, Kedah, on Sunday morning, June 28, 2026. The collision involved a lorry, a Perodua Myvi, and a Toyota Noah, according to details confirmed by Guar Chempedak Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohd Happyzam Abd Rasid.

The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call regarding the accident at 8.56am. A rescue team was then deployed to the scene to assist the victims and manage the situation at the crash site. Upon arrival, firefighters found that the accident involved several occupants from all three vehicles.

Mohd Happyzam said there were two men inside the lorry, two women in the Perodua Myvi, and four people in the Toyota Noah, consisting of one man and three women. The crash left eight people injured in total, with one victim suffering more serious injuries than the others.

The driver of the Perodua Myvi was found trapped in her seat following the collision. She suffered semi-critical injuries involving the head, shoulder, and leg. Firefighters carried out rescue work to remove her safely from the vehicle before she was given further medical assistance.

The other seven victims sustained minor injuries. Although their injuries were not described as critical, all victims were still taken for medical treatment to ensure they received proper assessment and care after the crash.

All injured individuals were sent to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for further treatment. The rescue operation at the scene ended at 10.05am after firefighters completed the rescue process and cleanup work at the crash site.

The incident caused concern among road users as it happened on one of Malaysia’s busiest highways. The North-South Expressway is a major route connecting several states, and traffic conditions can become risky when heavy vehicles and passenger cars share the same stretch of road, especially during peak travel periods.

Authorities have not yet released further details on the exact cause of the accident. Further investigation is expected to determine how the collision happened and whether factors such as vehicle movement, road conditions, speed, or driver awareness contributed to the crash.

The accident serves as another reminder for motorists to remain alert while driving on highways. Road users are advised to keep a safe distance from other vehicles, avoid sudden lane changes, follow speed limits, and stay cautious when driving near heavy vehicles such as lorries.

Emergency response teams also reminded the public of the importance of contacting authorities quickly when an accident occurs. Fast emergency reporting can help rescue teams arrive sooner, especially in cases where victims are trapped or require urgent medical attention.

The case remains under the attention of the relevant authorities, while the injured victims continue receiving treatment at Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital.
