Police Hunt Man To Assist Murder Probe After Foreigner Stabbed To Death In Kota Kinabalu

KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 — Police are searching for a man to assist investigations into the murder of a foreign national who was found dead after allegedly being stabbed at a construction site behind a vehicle showroom in Iramanis, Kota Kinabalu, early Wednesday morning. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Acting Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief Superintendent Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman said police received information about the incident at around 1.40 am, before an official police report was lodged at 2.23 am. Early investigations found that the 34-year-old victim had allegedly gone out with the man earlier in the morning to drink in the Penampang area.

According to police, both men later returned to their workers’ quarters at about 11 pm before an argument broke out. The dispute is believed to have been triggered by a misunderstanding while they were under the influence of alcohol.

Syed Lot said preliminary findings indicated that the victim allegedly struck the man with a wooden stick before the man retaliated by stabbing the victim four times using a vegetable knife. The man is believed to have fled the scene after the incident.

The victim’s body was later found inside a manhole near the location of the incident. A forensic team from the Sabah Criminal Investigation Department conducted an examination at the scene, while the body was sent to the Forensic Department of Queen Elizabeth I Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Police said efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the man, as well as to recover the weapon believed to have been used in the incident. Members of the public with information have been urged to contact investigating officer ASP Syed Abdul Rahman Syed Mohsin at 012-310 6882 or visit the nearest police station.
