Missing Man Found Drowned In Sungai Melaka After Search And Rescue Operation

KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 2026 – A 45-year-old man who was reported missing after he was feared to have fallen into Sungai Melaka near Yayasan Toh Puan Zurina in Pantai Peringgit, Melaka, was found drowned on Monday morning. The victim’s body was discovered at the Jambatan Taman Rumpun Bahagia area, about 2.5 kilometres from the location where he was believed to have fallen.

Melaka Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Deputy Fire Superintendent II Mohd Hafidzatullah Rashid said the body was found by police at about 9am. The Water Rescue Team later carried out the operation to retrieve the victim from the river before handing the body over to the Ministry of Health for further action.

The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call about the incident at 12.03am before personnel from the Melaka Tengah Fire and Rescue Station, with assistance from the Masjid Tanah Fire and Rescue Station, were deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters were informed that a 45-year-old man was believed to have fallen into the river nearby.

Based on early information gathered at the scene, the victim was believed to have been staying in a small hut near the Sungai Melaka riverbank. Search and rescue efforts were then launched around the river area to locate him.

The search was later suspended at night due to safety concerns and unsuitable surrounding conditions before being resumed the next morning. The victim was eventually found at Jambatan Tainging the search operation to a tragic end.

Mohd Hafidzatullah said the operation involved 15 Fire and Rescue Department personnel, with assistance from nine Royal Maland three members of the Marine Police Force.
